Swachta Ki Pathshala Now In Baramati

20191001_105043

Swachta Ki Pathshala, a concept inspired by Mr. Ashwini K Choudhary – Founder BrijBhoomi Foundation and organised by Brain World – Reshu Aggarwaal walked an extra mile and reached Baramati this week. A team of five travelled all the way from Pune to Baramati to conduct a two day workshop on conservation and cleanliness of environment. More than 2500 children participated from two prime schools of Baramati, Vidya Prathishthan New English School and Vidhya Pratishtaan New Bal Vikas Mandir. This was an opportunity conceptualized for children to go creative with the theme of clean and green environment and use their creative and innovative imagination to bring out the message for masses.

20191001_102754.jpg

With a vision to bring out a revolution of change and inculcate a habit of cleanliness amongst children, the team conducted a series of activities in the school premises. Idea was to see children set examples for a clean green environment. The children were at first briefed about the event and the concept with real time examples to make it an enthusiastic activity overall. The topics covered were – Water Harvesting, Say No To Plastics and Plant More Trees which were given to 3 different batches of children – class 1st to 4th, class 5th to 8th and class 9th to 12th. These topics were given on spot to churn their minds and bring out the creativity in their message.

The activity started with an essay writing on the given topics. They were however still curious about the topic for drawing. A child’s mind is creative and can bring out some interesting innovative, imaginative thoughts. They were therefore asked to now draw the same thoughts that they expressed in words. It was wonderful seeing children from different age groups bring out their creativity in their own way, this time with drawings, colors and shading. The team also had a heart to heart conversation with children. The level of understanding and a will power to do something was seen as a strong driving force within these children. The team also felt the selfless love and warmth from them.

Raincoat For Your Skin And An Umbrella For Your Hair

Raincoats for you to cover before going out in rains, an umbrella that makes a walk in rain a little more easier and gum boots that doesn’t bother you while stepping into a water/mud puddle. There is lots to keep rains away for long and yet enjoy the downpour. But less do we know that rains are still showering adversities and affects our skin and hair no matter how safe we stay inside our houses.

202010-monsoon

Shades of Expressions had an interesting conversation with Dr Niketa Sonavane who is a cosmetic dermatologist from Ambrosia Aesthetics, Mumbai. Mumbai and Pune, both in Maharashtra have been affected by rains adversely. It’s a moment of pleasure for a while but one must stay cautious and take care. An interesting interaction brought out some of the most useful tips to keep your hair and skin safe from the rain bug and its after affects. LET’S BEGIN!

close-up-water-flowing-into-hands-child_75145-149

With monsoons coming in, there comes moisture in air which may not be good for skin/hair. What do you suggest?

During rainy season, high humidity plays havoc with the skin as well as the hair. Our skin is more prone to congestion and acne breakout. Hair is prone to dandruff and frizz. Wash your face with a pH balanced face cleanser at least twice daily. Wash more often, especially if you have been exposed to rain water. Apply a water-based moisturizer and a water-resistant, broad spectrum sunscreen during the day. In the evening, double cleanse your skin with micellar water to remove all traces of dirt, oil and makeup. Apply a micro-peeling cream or serum to keep your pores from getting clogged. You can opt for quick steaming, light scrub and a clay mask once a week.

For hair, keep your scalp clean by washing your hair at least every 2 days. Try to wash each time your scalp gets wet in the rain, in order to prevent any infections. Pamper your hair to combat frizz during the monsoon. Once a week, use warm avocado or jojoba oil in the length of your hair an hour before your head wash, then wash with a clarifying shampoo. Deep condition your hair with a hydrating mask and cover with a shower cap for an hour. Rinse and apply a silicone-free conditioner.

soft-selective-focus-hands-droplets-water-from-shower_70251-141

What skin care for day and night do you advice for working population?

I like to keep the skin care routine simple. A face wash followed by an essence or moisturizer is a must in the morning and evening. In addition to this, apply a sunscreen during the day. For the working population I usually pick a tinted sunscreen that offers blue light protection against computer screens. For the evening or night, I prescribe an anti-pigmentation or anti-acne skin renewal cream depending on the skin type. Also, an eye cream can be added to prevent or correct dark circles, wrinkles and puffiness from constant screen exposure.

In summers, the intake of water should increase for skin. What do you suggest for monsoons?

Every person should have 6-8 glasses of liquid intake irrespective of the weather. The body and skin can get dehydrated even in the monsoon season in spite of the high humidity. Try to keep things interesting by having warm herbal teas that boost immunity.

happy-bathing-women-natural-waterfall_1150-7318

Rain water on hair can damage your hair. What do you advice for hair care?

Wash your hair and scalp after rain exposure. Rain water carries bacteria and dirt that can be a source of infection. Use a gentle, pH balanced scalp cleanser that does not contain any sulfates, silicones or parabens. Use a conditioner in the length of your hair, avoid applying it close to the scalp. Rinse off after 5 minutes. Keep the frizz down by wrapping your hair in a t-shirt or microfibre towel for 20 minutes. Allow your hair to air dry or use your hair drier on low speed and cool setting.

Oiling hair during monsoons, does that affect the kind of scalp you have? Please throw more light.

Avoid oiling your scalp if you have the tendency to develop dandruff. Oiling the length of the hair, once or twice a week is completely fine. If you have acne prone skin, then oiling is best avoided. But if you must, then wash the oil off your face extremely well and tie a scarf around your head at night.

Two interesting tips that keep you away from monsoon blues.

When it is raining outside, I love to indulge in some hot lemongrass tea or ginger lemon water. It helps me stay hydrated and gives an immunity boost to protect against infections during the rainy season. Besides this, I always carry micellar water, cotton wipes and a tinted sunscreen in my bag for a quick clean up when I am on the go.

BEAUTIFUL WARDROBE FOR PUNE FROM BENARAS – Thank You Ethnic Room

Ethnic Room

The biggest showroom in Pune at FC Road. You have to see it to believe it

20190704_161350

A woman’s love for silk drapes is known and it just gets better when its Benarasi Silk. The city of Peshwas today has the biggest showroom called Ethnic Room with traditional Benarasi handloom sarees. Yes! You read is right. Pune ladies can now add a royal fabric to their wardrobe without having to go all the way to Benaras or spend a little more than needed for these sarees. Yes! These sarees are expensive but it’s a royalty to own one.

Ethnic rooms store 2

I had gone for Ethnic Room’s store launch and believe me, all I had in mind was a typical showroom design with sarees kept all stacked and to be shown by one of the workers. Well! I was wrong. The minute I got the first glance of the showroom, I knew that the brand has got a grandeur collection to Pune. A huge showroom spread over 3000 sq.ft. with a sarees hanging at all sides made me believe that this time the ladies of Pune would go for the showroom to drape the best that they have to offer.

20190704_232626

The store looks colorful, vibrant and promising with beautiful drapes well stocked. The store gave me a feel of an open wardrobe with sarees well kept in hangers all over. From silk to linen to lots more. They have added zari to each saree to add that perfect royalty. The motifs are beautiful and adds grace to their collection.

20190704_234159

The store plans to soon add lehenga and salwar kameez and fabrics for men too. Each of the masterpieces would be handicrafted by their own karigars (artists). Ethnic brings together a collection from their own handloom and therefore the cost is very competitive.

20190704_170651

The brand cares for the traditions and has taken into account simple lifestyle technology of Pune people who love to dress up and also value their money. Well! It was difficult for me to believe that a Benaras silk drape started from Rs. 1000/-, promising indeed.

ABACHI THALI – MAHARASHTRIAN PLATTER

Slide11

Shades Of Expressions visited Abachi Thali located in Sadashiv Peth this afternoon for blogger tasting session. Being a Bengali with not so fond liking for spicy food, I wasn’t really sure if I would be able to relish Maharashtrian non-veg cuisines knowing that the flavors are spicy as well as tasty. Well!! I am glad I went there and the platter I had was delicious. Each thali with chicken had distinguished flavors.
Slide2

Sol Kadi – The best drink that I have had with goodness of taste. I had an extra glass since this helps in digestion too. the sol Kadi had a thaska or tadka of chilly taste which made it all the more refreshing. Yes I enjoyed drinking it.

We started with different thali platter and each thali had onion salad with curd, tambra rassa, pandra rassa. the veg thali had dal and the non-veg thali had (EGG CURRY) anda rassa. No doubt all of them were equally tasty. These are taste enhancers. Rassa is curry for those who do not know.
Slide3

Khandeshi Shev Bhaji Thaali – This plate did remind me of Misal but the taste blends were different. Spicy and tasty.

Slide6

Chicken Malwani Thali – Well cooked chicken with perfect blend of malwani tastes. There was coconut flavor and small grated granules that added to the taste.
Slide7

Chicken Dhangari Thali – Spicy chicken well cooked with flavors that gave a zing to my taste buds.
Slide8

Chicken Kharada Thali –  Now this was a challenge for me to eat because the chicken was covered with green marination and I knew it is nothing but thecha. Thecha is a spicy condiment and is with a lot of chilly flavors. I did request the owner to keep it less and am glad he acknowledged. It was chilly for me but the rassa did the balancing of taste for me. Well cooked chicken with perfect masala flavors.
Slide9

Masale Bhaat(Rice) – Maharastrian veg pulao with local flavors. Well cooked and tasty

Slide10

Khada Masala Bhaat – This reminded me of the crspy fry onion that is added to biryani. Have the rice without anything to enjoy the taste of whole spices added like big cardamom, cinnamon etc.

OVERALL A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE. SURE TO VISIT AGAIN.

20190512_192713Nachos with Cheese and Jalapenos– Crisp, a dash of spicy taste topped with lots of cheese sauce. A crunchy delight

Chicken Pepperoni Pizza– Thin crust with chicken salami and lots of cheese. It was good.

Tawa Ghosht and Mughalai Paratha – A perfect north-Indian taste with spices blended well in soft cooked mutton pieces served with soft paratha

Angel’s Treat was a nice mocktail with pomegranate flavors but my fav was Black Beauty and it surely was. A slight taste of mojito with ice tea like taste topped with mint leaves. A perfect summer cooler.

In desserts Wild Rice Pudding was my favourite. Not so sweet but just perfectly sweet with crunchy nuts. I only wish if my belly had more space.

Overall a day well spent.
